Week 12 - The 1st Good Glimpse

This week, baby is as big as a plum! Ben has eagerly downloaded several different apps to keep up to date on baby's growth as well as the expected changes to Kiersten's body. Unfortunately, morning sickness has been a constant, with vomiting and dry heaving becoming an every day trend. Everywhere we look indicates that most women have experienced relief from these symptoms by now. That is unfortunately not the case for this pregnancy. We are constantly reminded that "every pregnancy is different" in addition to the reassurance that "this will pass soon, and then you'll be glowing!" At this point, we are beginning to expect Kiersten's body to have literal light beams coming from her fingers and hair.

We were able to visit the doctor, again and get some more pictures! We can finally see our little one in a form we recognize. It was so special to hear their heartbeat and see them wriggle around on the ultrasound screen. The doctor indicated that the next several days should bring some relief for the morning sickness, but also took note of the seriousness and offered some over the counter medication suggestions. At this point, we have tried everything under the sun, from lemon icies to peppermint essential oils. He reassures us that if Kiersten doesn't find relief under the new treatment plan in short order, we should call back and he will send in for a prescription. This is welcome news, especially as the we take a moment to honestly reflect on the impact these symptoms have had on her life, both personally and professionally. We're fortunate that Dan has been so understanding, but we also know that this is the slow season for hotels, and that patience may fade as things begin to pick up.

Week 34 - Home is where Family is

This week, we eagerly prepared for a celebration. With great excitement, we welcomed our parents and sibling to our home to celebrate: * Independence Day * Kiersten's MBA Graduation * 1 Year Wedding Anniversary * The completed decoration of our home! In the final days leading up to this special occasion, we put the finishing touches on our home, becoming experts at measuring and hanging wall art - something our house has been desperately missing for way too long! Believe it or not, we signed the mortgage on this little place in November of 2018. So, the walls have been in desperate need of some personality. In much thanks to the generosity of our family and friends, we were able to fill it with several meaningful items, as well as a few selections of our own. It brought us great pride to show off our finished space to our immediate family. We have taken the time during quarantine to truly knock items off our project list and make this little house our own.

Week 32 - Worries and Wonders

The discernment for baby names continues. We would really like to take inspiration from the saints in naming our children. How cool would it be to read a story about a superhero and think "hey, that's my name?" How much cooler to know that the superhero was a real life person that did amazing things as a child of God? We hope that these amazing role models will inspire our children, through a variety of ways. In the meantime, we are actively searching through saint stories and feast days, hunting for just the right ones. We are cutting it pretty close to the end! It is a much more difficult challenge than we anticipated - who knew we had so many opinions? This week, the reality of our timeline is becoming increasingly apparent. We are just 6-10 weeks away from meeting our little one. This is extremely exciting but also very scary. In the midst of a pandemic, we don't have the option of attending a child-birth class or touring the hospital where we will labor and ...

Week 24 - Nesting

No, we aren't referring to the bird's nest crazy that's Kiersten's hair. That's just the result of several weeks of quarantine aligned with 24 weeks of pregnancy. We have begun a pretty serious nesting stage. This week, Kiersten loaded and unloaded the dishwasher 3 times in one day. She voluntarily vacuums and dusts the house, something our home in Adrian sorely needs by now, but we still remain at the Hitchingham Hostel. The other residents have grown accustomed to her cleaning frenzies and pitch in as needed to keep her crazy to a minimum. The nesting would be much better used in Adrian, as a nursery is completely non-existent at the moment. Don't worry, Kiersten has been pinteresting for months, and we started a registry a while ago, but nothing had been purchased when this week began. On Friday, we finally got back to the house to spend some quality time preparing for baby's arrival. We cleaned out the 2nd bedroom and made way in the living room...
