Week 25 - Upgrades for Baby and Mom

The "little bedroom" is on its way to becoming a nursery! This week, Ben successfully dismantled the old light fixture and installed a new one. The nickel finish will compliment the grey tones in the furniture, nicely. This was a fun little project because we had hoped we could handle ourselves but weren't sure if this was practical. When he said he was finished, Ben sent Kiersten downstairs to flip the breaker back on. You can only imagine his disappointment when she shouted that it was flipped and the light didn't go on. As he stood scratching his head, he was relieved to hear another shout - baby brain flipped the wrong switch! We chuckled as she came back upstairs to admire his handiwork.

Baby is now the size of a head of cauliflower. They are measuring over a foot long and we can definitely tell its getting cramped in there! At one point this week, baby seemed to completely roll over and Kiersten jumped in surprise. It can be kind of disconcerting to think that there is a literal living being inside of you. They are pretty chill for the most part, but every once in a while they throw a dance party, especially when its bed time...not a reassuring foreshadowing!

In March, we acknowledged that regular clothes were no longer going to do and went on the hunt for maternity clothes. Who knew this would be so challenging! If you look at most women's clothing sites and simply refine by maternity attire, 1000s of items are suddenly reduced to <50. Most retailers are tailoring toward moms that are looking for comfy clothes - tshirts and lounging pants. As a working mom, Kiersten needed business professional attire and found the options to be fairly slim picking. Unfortunately, the few retailers that do offer these items know the offerings are scarce...resulting in hefty price tags. After much digging, we found a website with good deals and placed a large order. They said everything would arrive by April 11th....unfortunately shipping has them literally stuck on the slow boat from China! This week, things got a bit out of hand. So, we caved to the unknowns of Amazon fashion and snagged a few items with quick shipping. At first, we thought they would all need to be returned - dresses WAY too short and pants SUPER butt huggy! However, we are in a very serious pickle and were able to put our heads together...dresses became tunics that cover the snugness - problem solved! We are currently on the hunt for a few camisoles/tanks to pair with the v-necklines.

Week 34 - Home is where Family is

This week, we eagerly prepared for a celebration. With great excitement, we welcomed our parents and sibling to our home to celebrate: * Independence Day * Kiersten's MBA Graduation * 1 Year Wedding Anniversary * The completed decoration of our home! In the final days leading up to this special occasion, we put the finishing touches on our home, becoming experts at measuring and hanging wall art - something our house has been desperately missing for way too long! Believe it or not, we signed the mortgage on this little place in November of 2018. So, the walls have been in desperate need of some personality. In much thanks to the generosity of our family and friends, we were able to fill it with several meaningful items, as well as a few selections of our own. It brought us great pride to show off our finished space to our immediate family. We have taken the time during quarantine to truly knock items off our project list and make this little house our own.

Week 32 - Worries and Wonders

The discernment for baby names continues. We would really like to take inspiration from the saints in naming our children. How cool would it be to read a story about a superhero and think "hey, that's my name?" How much cooler to know that the superhero was a real life person that did amazing things as a child of God? We hope that these amazing role models will inspire our children, through a variety of ways. In the meantime, we are actively searching through saint stories and feast days, hunting for just the right ones. We are cutting it pretty close to the end! It is a much more difficult challenge than we anticipated - who knew we had so many opinions? This week, the reality of our timeline is becoming increasingly apparent. We are just 6-10 weeks away from meeting our little one. This is extremely exciting but also very scary. In the midst of a pandemic, we don't have the option of attending a child-birth class or touring the hospital where we will labor and ...

Week 24 - Nesting

No, we aren't referring to the bird's nest crazy that's Kiersten's hair. That's just the result of several weeks of quarantine aligned with 24 weeks of pregnancy. We have begun a pretty serious nesting stage. This week, Kiersten loaded and unloaded the dishwasher 3 times in one day. She voluntarily vacuums and dusts the house, something our home in Adrian sorely needs by now, but we still remain at the Hitchingham Hostel. The other residents have grown accustomed to her cleaning frenzies and pitch in as needed to keep her crazy to a minimum. The nesting would be much better used in Adrian, as a nursery is completely non-existent at the moment. Don't worry, Kiersten has been pinteresting for months, and we started a registry a while ago, but nothing had been purchased when this week began. On Friday, we finally got back to the house to spend some quality time preparing for baby's arrival. We cleaned out the 2nd bedroom and made way in the living room...
